Access Control Coventry
We supply, install and repair access control, door entry systems, automatic gates, barriers and automatic doors across Coventry and Warwickshire. As approved Paxton installers with over 20 years in the trade, we look after everything from a single keypad door to a gated car park and a networked system across several buildings.
Access Control Systems in Coventry
Keys are a weak point for any business. They get copied, lost and never handed back when staff leave. Access control solves that by giving each person a fob, card or code that can be switched off in seconds.

Fob, card and keypad access
We are approved Paxton installers and fit everything from a single door with a keypad to networked systems such as Paxton Net2 covering a whole site. With a networked system you can see who used which door and when, give different staff different access levels, and change permissions from your desk without anyone touching a lock.

One system for doors, gates and barriers
The same fob that opens the office can lift the car park barrier and open the vehicle gate, so staff carry one credential instead of three. On a networked system you add a new starter once, and every reader on the site knows about them.

Automatic Gates in Coventry
Electric gates keep cars and children in, stop people wandering up the drive, and make arriving home in the rain far less of a hassle. Getting the design and installation right really matters, though, because a heavy gate moving under power can seriously hurt someone if it isn’t set up correctly.

Swing gates
The classic driveway choice, with post mounted arms or hidden underground motors. A drive that slopes up from the road affects which way they can open.

Sliding gates
Tracked or cantilevered, and our usual pick for wide openings.

Ways to open your gates
Fobs, keypads, proximity tags, video intercoms and phone apps, matched to how the gate gets used day to day.
Barriers and Bollards in Coventry
On business sites the priorities change. Traffic flow, durability and control over who gets in matter more than looks, although looks still count.
Car park barriers
The most cost effective way to control a car park or site entrance, operated by fobs, keypads, intercoms or your existing access control.
Bollards
Fixed, removable, telescopic and automatic rising bollards to protect buildings, shopfronts and parking spaces.

Automatic Doors in Coventry
Sliding and swing doors for shops, surgeries, offices and public buildings. Easier for anyone with a pushchair, a wheelchair or their hands full, and in many cases we can automate a suitable existing door.
Door Entry Systems in Coventry
For flats, offices and gated homes, a door entry system lets you see and speak to visitors before you let them in. We install audio and video intercoms from Videx, BPT, Bell and Urmet, including systems you can answer from your phone. With two universities, Coventry has a huge rental market, and landlords and managing agents rely on dependable entry panels to keep shared buildings secure and cut down on call outs.

Access Control and Gates for Coventry Schools
Schools are a big part of what we do. From small primaries to large secondary academies, we fit the door entry, access control, CCTV and alarms that keep pupils safe and let staff get on with teaching.
Most school security starts at reception. The Department for Education’s school security guidance says visitors should sign in at the office and not wander the site unaccompanied, and a video door entry panel with release from reception is the simplest way to make that happen. Behind it, staff carry fobs or cards, so access can change when timetables do and be cancelled the day someone leaves.
A school entrance has to manage two very different groups at once: children on foot, and cars, vans and minibuses. Across Coventry we design school entrances so the two are kept apart, with a separate pedestrian gate beside the vehicle gate and nobody expected to walk through the path of a powered gate.
Martyn’s Law will add to that. Under the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, schools where 200 or more people can be expected on site at the same time will need procedures for evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication, and every school sits in the standard tier however large it is. Those duties will not start before April 2027. A networked access control system that can lock controlled doors from one point makes a lockdown plan far easier to carry out.
- Door entry with release from reception
- Staff fobs, cancelled the day someone leaves
- Controlled doors locked down from a single point
- Separate pedestrian gates, away from vehicle routes
- Safety edges, photocells and force testing as standard

Gate safety and the standards we work to
This is the part that matters most, and honestly it is the part cheaper installers sometimes skip. Powered gates and barriers fall under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, the recognised safety standard is BS EN 12453, and the DHF TS 011 code of practice sets out how they should be designed, installed and maintained.
If you already have electric gates without safety edges or photocells, please get them checked. We can bring existing gates up to the current standard.
- Risk assessment for every installation
- Safety edges and photocells that stop and reverse the gate
- Force testing with calibrated equipment
- Safety documentation at handover
Do electric gates need planning permission in Coventry?
Often not, but height and position decide it. Next to a road used by vehicles, including the pavement, a new gate can be up to one metre high without planning permission. Anywhere else the limit is two metres. Listed buildings and some conservation areas are different.
Most front driveway gates are taller than a metre, so check with Coventry City Council before you commit.
Access control and gate repairs in Coventry
Gates are machines, and machines wear. Motors tire, hinges drop, photocells get knocked out of line and door hardware takes a battering in a busy building. A regular service costs far less than an emergency call out when the gate jams shut on a Monday morning or a reader stops working. We repair most major brands, including systems we didn’t fit.
Alarms and CCTV from the same installer
We also fit burglar alarms and CCTV across Coventry, so a camera can watch the gate while the alarm protects the building, all designed together and looked after by one team.
Areas we cover around Coventry
We install access control, door entry, gates and barriers across Coventry, from Allesley, Eastern Green and Keresley to Styvechale, Finham and Binley Woods, and on the business parks and industrial estates out towards the M6 and M69.

What our customers say
Access control in Coventry: your questions answered
How much does access control cost in Coventry?
It depends on the number of doors, the type of lock each door needs and whether you want a standalone keypad or a networked system you can manage from a PC. We quote after a site visit, so the figure you get is the figure you pay.
Can I control access to my building from my phone?
Yes, with the right system. Many modern access control and door entry systems let you open doors, check who has come and gone and add or remove users from an app. We’ll show you the options during the survey.
How much do electric gates cost in Coventry?
It depends on size, material, swing or slide, motor type, groundwork and how you want to open it. We quote after a site visit so the figure you get is the figure you pay.
Can you automate my existing gates?
Often, yes. If the gates, posts and hinges are in good condition, we can usually add motors and safety devices to them. Very heavy timber gates or ones that have dropped on their hinges may need repair or reinforcement first, and we will tell you honestly if replacing them makes more sense.
What happens to electric gates in a power cut?
Every system we install can be released by hand, so you are never locked in or out. We will show you how at handover. Battery backup can also be added to keep many gate systems running for a while without mains power.
Do I need planning permission for electric gates?
Not always. A new gate next to a road or pavement can be up to one metre high without permission, and up to two metres elsewhere on your property. Taller gates, listed buildings and some conservation areas need a planning application, so check with your local planning authority first.
Are automatic gates safe at a school?
Yes, when they are designed and installed properly. We always recommend a separate pedestrian gate so children never walk through a powered vehicle gate, and every system has safety edges, photocells and force testing to BS EN 12453 before it is handed over.
Do you install door entry systems for flats in Coventry?
Yes. We fit audio and video door entry panels for blocks of flats, student lets and shared houses across Coventry, including systems residents can answer on their phone. Older entry systems that other companies installed can be repaired or upgraded too.
