Automatic Gates Northampton
We supply, install and repair automatic gates, car park barriers, bollards, access control and automatic doors across Northampton and West Northamptonshire. With over 20 years in the trade and approved installer status with Came, FAAC, BFT and Paxton, we handle everything from a pair of driveway gates to a barrier on a busy logistics site.
Automatic Gates in Northampton
Electric gates keep cars in, stop people wandering up the drive and make coming home in the rain far easier. They also need to be designed and installed properly, because a heavy gate moving under power can seriously injure someone if the safety side is skipped.
From period homes in the villages to new builds in Upton and Grange Park, we design gates around the drive, the slope and how you use the entrance day to day.

Swing gates
The classic driveway choice, with post mounted arms or hidden underground motors. A drive that slopes up from the road affects which way they can open.

Sliding gates
Tracked or cantilevered, and our usual pick for wide openings and commercial yards.

Ways to open your gates
Fobs, keypads, proximity tags, video intercoms and phone apps, matched to how the gate gets used.
Barriers and Bollards in Northampton
Northampton’s logistics and industrial sites put entrances under heavy daily use, so barriers and gates need to be tough, quick and easy to control.
Car park barriers
The most cost effective way to control a car park or yard entrance, operated by fobs, keypads, intercoms or ANPR linked access control.
Bollards
Fixed, removable, telescopic and automatic rising bollards to protect buildings, loading areas and reserved spaces.

Access Control Systems in Northampton
Keys get copied, lent out and lost, and you rarely know how many are out there. Access control gives each person a fob, card or code that can be cancelled in seconds.

Fob, card and keypad access
As approved Paxton installers we fit everything from a single keypad door to Paxton Net2 systems across offices, warehouses and multiple sites. You can see who used which door and when, and change access from a PC.

One system for doors, gates and barriers
On sites around Brackmills and Moulton Park, the same fob can open the staff door, lift the barrier and open the yard gate. Shift patterns are easy to handle, with access that only works when each person is due on site.

Automatic Doors in Northampton
Automatic sliding and swing doors for shops, surgeries, offices and public buildings around Northampton. They make entrances easier for everyone, and a suitable existing door can often be automated rather than replaced.
Door Entry Systems in Northampton
For flats, offices and gated homes, a door entry system lets you see and speak to visitors before letting them in. We install Videx, BPT, Bell and Urmet audio and video intercoms, including systems you can answer on your phone, and they work well alongside an electric gate at the end of the drive.

Gates and Access Control for Northampton Schools
A school entrance has to handle children on foot and cars, vans and minibuses at the same time. We keep the two apart, with a separate pedestrian gate beside the vehicle gate so nobody walks through the path of a powered gate. Gates can open around drop off and pick up and stay locked in between.
At the front door, the Department for Education’s school security guidance says visitors should sign in at reception. A video entry panel answered from the office makes that easy, and staff fobs can be cancelled the day someone leaves.
Martyn’s Law will add to that. Schools where 200 or more people can be expected on site at once will need evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication procedures under the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, with the duties starting no earlier than April 2027.
- Door entry with release from reception
- Staff fobs, cancelled the day someone leaves
- Controlled doors locked down from a single point
- Separate pedestrian gates, away from vehicle routes
- Safety edges, photocells and force testing as standard

Gate safety and the standards we work to
This is the part that matters most, and it is the part cheaper installers sometimes skip. Powered gates and barriers fall under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, the recognised safety standard is BS EN 12453, and the DHF TS 011 code of practice sets out how they should be designed, installed and maintained.
Already have electric gates without safety edges or photocells? Please get them checked. We can bring existing gates up to the current standard.
- Risk assessment for every installation
- Safety edges and photocells that stop and reverse the gate
- Force testing with calibrated equipment
- Safety documentation at handover
Do electric gates need planning permission in Northampton?
Often not, but height and position decide it. Next to a road used by vehicles, including the pavement, a new gate can be up to one metre high without planning permission. Anywhere else the limit is two metres. Listed buildings and some conservation areas are treated differently.
Most front driveway gates are taller than a metre, so check with West Northamptonshire Council before you commit.
Gate, barrier and access control repairs in Northampton
Gates are machines, and machines wear. Motors tire, hinges drop, photocells get knocked out of line and control boards suffer after a wet winter. A regular service costs far less than an emergency call out when a busy entrance stops working. We repair most major brands, including systems we did not fit.
Alarms and CCTV from the same team
We also fit burglar alarms and CCTV across Northampton, so a camera can watch the gate while the alarm looks after the building, all from one installer.
Areas we cover around Northampton
We install gates, barriers and access control all over Northampton, including Duston, Kingsthorpe, Abington, Wootton, Upton and Grange Park, and on commercial sites at Brackmills, Moulton Park and along the M1.

What our customers say
Automatic gates and access control in Northampton: your questions answered
How much do electric gates cost in Northampton?
It depends on size, material, swing or slide, motor type, groundwork and how you want to open them. We quote after a site visit, so the figure you get is the figure you pay.
Can you automate my existing gates?
Often, yes. If the gates, posts and hinges are in good condition we can usually add motors and safety devices. Very heavy gates or ones that have dropped may need repair first.
Do I need planning permission for electric gates in Northampton?
Not always. A new gate next to a road or pavement can be up to one metre high without permission, and up to two metres elsewhere. Taller gates, listed buildings and some conservation areas need an application, so check with West Northamptonshire Council first.
What happens to electric gates in a power cut?
Every system we install can be released by hand, so you are never locked in or out. Battery backup can also be added.
Do you install barriers for warehouses and logistics sites?
Yes. We fit heavy duty barriers, sliding gates and bollards for logistics and industrial sites, linked to fobs, intercoms or your access control system.
How much does access control cost?
It depends on the number of doors, the locks they need and whether you want a standalone keypad or a networked system. We give a fixed written quote after a site visit.
How often should automatic gates be serviced?
At least once a year for domestic gates, and more often for busy commercial gates and barriers. A service checks the safety devices, force settings, motors and hinges.
